You know the way you catch up with people: in the park; at the school gate; in the pub; at your place of worship; or just a chat at the bus stop? And when you do, you talk about what is going on in the world around you. Why doesn’t that happen online?
Of course, there are websites with information and yes, we connect with friends but somehow we don’t have the same connection with the area we live in when we are online. Wouldn’t it be good to have a place that brought people together and allowed us to have those conversations with friends and neighbours? To share the news about our neighbourhood? To chat, pass the time of day and find out what is going on?
We are working on creating that place. The project is called We Live Here. To start off with we are working in three areas of Brighton and Hove to look at the conversations that are actually happening and where people are meeting – both online and in the real world. But we need your help. This is not a project designed by web geeks in an office. We are working with communities to design something which reflects the place they live in. The aim is to bring people together online and in the real world. To allow them to have the conversations that matter and to use social media and networking to make their place an even better place to live in.
